Pilbara Project
(Iron, Nickel-Copper, Zinc-Copper, Copper-Gold)

Legend Mining Limited (Legend) and its wholly-owned subsidiary Armada Mining Limited (Armada), hold rights through granted tenements, tenement applications and joint venture agreements over 686km2 of the West Pilbara in the northwest of Western Australia.

The Pilbara Project area lies between 7km and 50km south of Karratha. Click here to view a tenement map.

Recent evaluation of the project’s magnetite iron ore potential has involved aeromagnetic modelling by Southern Geoscience Consultants (SGC) over 20km of prospective banded iron formation (BIF) within the Cleaverville Formation. Results from this work indicate an “Exploration Target” with the potential for 600Mt to 1,000Mt of magnetite. An expected grade of 25-35% Fe is considered likely based on reported grades from the nearby Cape Lambert and Mt Oscar resources, also hosted by the Cleaverville Formation.
(ASX Announcement: 28 October 2009).

Previous rockchip sampling results (44 samples) over BIF of the Cleaverville Formation were reported to the ASX on 20 November 2009. This non-systematic sampling programme was targeting high grade magnetite-bearing BIF, with 30 samples returning results ranging between 30-58% Fe. Outcropping BIF units have observable thicknesses up to 50m with semi continuous strike lengths up to 600m. This confirms the magnetite potential of the Cleaverville Formation within Legend’s Pilbara Project.
(ASX Announcement: 20 November 2008).

In November 2006, Legend flew an airborne Versatile Time Domain Electro Magnetic survey (VTEM-1) covering 180km2,
(ASX Announcement: 4 December 2006). A second VTEM-2 survey was completed in June 2007, covering 210km2,
(ASX Announcement: 5 July 2007).

The VTEM technique has proven to be an extremely valuable and cost effective technique in identifying new targets and known sulphide ore systems in the Pilbara. Priority anomalies identified in the two VTEM surveys have been followed-up with ground Fixed-Loop Transient Electromagnetic surveys (FLTEM) defining 14 immediate drill targets.

Eleven drill targets fall within Legend’s 100% tenure, two within the Mt Marie JV and one on Munni Munni JV ground. Approximately 50% of the current ground holding has now been flown by the two surveys.

Legend is currently negotiating a heritage agreement to gain full access to the project. The commencement of drill testing of electromagnetic targets and further evaluation of the iron ore potential will follow all statutory approvals.
